King of the Tarantula World – The Largest Spider on Earth
Theraphosa blondi, originating from the humid rainforests of South America, is undoubtedly the most famous and admired tarantula in the world. Known as the Goliath Birdeater or T. blondi, it is recognized as the largest spider on Earth by mass. It is a true giant, whose impressive size and majestic presence make it a dream for many keepers. This species is intended for experienced breeders who can meet its specific requirements.

Natural Habitat and Geographical Origin
T. blondi inhabits the humid tropical forests of French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, southern Venezuela, and northern Brazil. It leads a terrestrial lifestyle, digging deep and extensive burrows in the ground or occupying abandoned burrows of other animals. Its environment is characterized by very high humidity and stable, warm temperatures.

Morphology and Size
Adult Theraphosa blondi individuals reach a leg span of up to 25-30 cm (10-12 inches), and their body mass can exceed 170 grams. Their body is massive, covered with dense, long hairs in shades of brown, from light brown to dark brown. Young individuals are lighter, and their coloration darkens with age. It is a true colossus that makes a huge impression with its size and powerful build.

Behavior and Character
T. blondi is generally a species with a moderately calm temperament, but due to its size and mass, it can be very defensive. Like other New World tarantulas, it can kick urticating hairs from its abdomen, which are very irritating and can cause severe itching and respiratory irritation. In a threatening situation, it can also produce loud hissing sounds (stridulation) by rubbing its chelicerae and legs together. Bites are rare, and their venom is mild and does not pose a serious medical threat to humans, comparable to a wasp sting. However, due to the size of its fangs, a bite is painful.

Feeding Habits
In nature, their diet consists of large insects, lizards, frogs, and even small rodents and birds. In captivity, adult individuals can be fed large crickets, cockroaches, locusts, and occasionally even pinky mice or small chicks. It is important not to overfeed the spider. Feeding once every 1-2 weeks is recommended.

Lifespan
Female Theraphosa blondi are long-lived and, under optimal breeding conditions, can live from 15 to 20 years. Males have a much shorter lifespan, typically 3 to 5 years.

Husbandry Requirements
Terrarium: For an adult individual, a very spacious terrarium with dimensions of at least 50x40x40 cm is required. Excellent ventilation is crucial. Substrate: A very deep layer of substrate (at least 20-25 cm), such as coco fiber or a mixture of peat and vermiculite, should be placed at the bottom of the terrarium. This substrate should retain moisture well and allow for digging.
Temperature: The ideal temperature is 24 to 28°C.
Humidity: The recommended humidity is 80-90%. This can be maintained by daily misting of the terrarium and providing constant access to a large water dish. Hide: A permanent, sturdy hide (e.g., a large piece of bark, ceramic cave) should be provided to give the spider a sense of security.
Water: A large, shallow water dish should always be available and refilled regularly.

Suitable for Hobbyists
Theraphosa blondi is a species intended for experienced keepers. Its specific humidity requirements, sensitivity to stress, as well as its size and potential defensive strength, make it unsuitable for beginners. It requires regular attention and an appropriate environment.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Yes, all species available in our offer come from verified sources and are safe for home breeding. We do not sell species with venom that is life-threatening to humans.

We use special, secure packaging that protects the animal during transport. Shipping is carried out according to the highest standards, so that the spider arrives in perfect condition.

Every spider needs an appropriate terrarium with proper substrate, a hide, water, and ventilation. In the product descriptions, you will find guidelines regarding the requirements of each species.

We do not recommend direct contact. Spiders are animals for observation, not for touching. For their safety and your comfort, it is best to limit yourself to admiring them in the terrarium.

Adult tarantulas usually only need to be fed once every 7–10 days; younger ones more often. Their diet consists of feeder insects such as crickets or cockroaches.

This is a normal phenomenon – especially during molting. Spiders may not eat for several weeks, or even months. The most important thing is that they have access to fresh water and peaceful conditions.
